History of The Miss World Competition
The Miss World competition is one of
the oldest and most prestigious beauty pageants in the world. It was founded in
1951 by Eric Morley in the United Kingdom and has since become an annual event
that draws contestants from over 100 countries around the globe.
The first Miss World competition was
held in London and was initially intended to be a one-time event. However, it
proved to be a huge success, and it was decided to make it an annual
competition. Over the years, the competition has evolved and changed to reflect
the changing times, with new categories being added and rules being modified.
One of the most significant changes to
the Miss World competition was the introduction of the Beauty With a Purpose
category in 1972. This category requires contestants to undertake a project
that benefits their community and serves as a way to promote charitable causes.
Despite some controversy over the
years, the Miss World competition continues to attract a large international
audience and remains an important cultural event. It has also served as a
platform for women to promote social causes and make a positive impact in their
communities.
